RuPaul says he's sorry, but people are outraged

We discuss the impact that RuPaul's comments have made on the LGBTQ + community

In a recent statement, RuPaul has shown his repent on an allegation that he made on his TV show RuPaul's Drag Race. He had stated that transgender women were not allowed to compete on his show due to them being assigned male at birth. He also stated that he would "probably not" accept anyone who has transitioned gender, whether that be FtM (female to male) or MtF (Male to Female). This statement was published because of an audition tape that the show had received of a transgender woman competing in drag and wanting to be part of the show. RuPaul, who is usually a man who greatly fights for equality, was ridiculed by many outraged fans.

When the outrage was made towards the drag queen, he didn't reply fully and only added to the anger by stating on his twitter that "an athlete who takes steroids is still an athlete, just not in the Olympics" This made fans incredibly angry at RuPaul for implying that a person who is transitioning is still allowed to be a drag queen but not in his competition. People were not satisfied with his apology, feeling as though it ridiculed the trans community and made them feel as though his apology didn't show full repent.

However, in the most recent developments, RuPaul has decided that he wants to make a full apology to the community for causing such controversy and outrage. He apologised on twitter after deleting the first comment by stating "Each morning I pray to set aside everything I THINK I know, so I may have an open mind and a new experience. I understand and regret the hurt I have caused. The trans community are heroes of our shared LGBTQ movement. You are my teachers." He has also said that the trans community inspirers him to do drag and that he would never want to offend those who he fully supports. Some people have said that they still do not accept his apology, but many have accepted his apology and are waiting to see him in the 10th season of RuPaul's drag race. Due to Ru's recent fight with the media, there is rumour of a transgender queen being involved.
