HS2 is going a create a huge impact on our local area. Passing a few metres away from Southam, residents shall be able to hear and see the train which is planning to run 14 times a day.
The route that it is taking shall ruin livelihoods and get rid of beautiful countryside. There may be no positives for our local area, but in a wider perspective, journeys will become shorter by a large proportion between Birmingham to London and other routes such as Manchester to London. This greatly affects commuters as government believe it can greatly increase capacity and decrease journey time.
However, HS2 has also been seen negatively within smaller communities due to the environmental and cultural problems HS2 may create. Wildlife Trusts have publically stated that both phases of the HS2 will directly affect nature reserves which can overall lead to a net loss in biodiversity. Places in Wales are also being greatly affected due to the fact it is away from the main line, ultimately creating a major job loss and no economic benefits. Some residents in South Yorkshire are at possibility of losing homes and 16 of 216 houses in an estate are planned to demolished.
Unfortunately, for our local area, we shall often hear "a tunnel boom" as a tunnel is to be close to our town. A local garden centre is having to be demolished, Dallas Burston Polo Club will be affected as well as the local football and rugby club. Routes to and from Harbury will have to be altered along with routes to and from school for students from Leamington. We cannot use this train from our town, therefore we will have all of the negatives without any positives.
