2028 Squadron Cadets
Caroline Bradburn

Over the weekend 23-25 March 2018, 20 Air Cadets, including two from 2028 Southam Squadron, took part in the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing's first Senior Leadership course.

The Wing training team had developed a programme that not only delivered the leadership skills and abilities needed to be a capable senior Cadet, but also qualified those attending for the new Silver Leadership badge.

The cadets initially took a test in relation to their current leadership abilities, looking back at elements from their first course and was a good marker to assess their understanding of the role of a leader in the Air Cadets. On the Saturday of the course the main elements of the silver programme were delivered, along with drill theory and practice. The cadets were also inspected on their personal dress and turnout. On the Sunday of the course the cadets undertook their silver assessment exam and then went straight into their leadership tasks. Both cadets from 2028 Squadron passed the silver programme and they were given their silver badges on the final parade.

Both Cadets are or have been Students at Southam College and it is to their credit and that of the College that they have developed into fine Leaders within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. One of them commented that it had been a challenging but rewarding experience!
